There are two reasons that we don’t offer natural sun lotions with an SPF of more than 25.
• The UVA filters we use in our natural sun lotions do not last all day
• A very high SPF can encourage people to spend more time in the sun, increasing their UVA exposure
UVA filters
All SPF figures are based upon a sunscreen's ability to block UVB radiation. This is the form of Ultra Violet light that causes visible redness and burning of the skin.
However, there is another form of UV light which is also known to be damaging in the long-term - this is UVA radiation.
UVA penetrates deeper into the skin and can cause damage to the genetic make-up or composition of new skin cells as they are being formed. Whilst this damage is not immediately obvious or visible, it is understood that this leads to premature skin ageing and increases the risk of skin cancer in later life.
