A sunscreen’s SPF rating only tells you about the level of UVB protection that it offers. It doesn’t tell you anything about its UVA protection. This is a very important point as UVA rays cause damage more deeply in the skin and are thought to be responsible for skin cancers.

UVA protection is measured using a star rating system which may or may not be shown on the bottle of sunscreen.
